Sadly, Inara had not managed to wheedle her way onto the away team. Elizabeth compromised with her by agreeing to send her through if Sheppard and his team ran into any situations requiring more diplomacy than an easy smile and an open hand could offer.
"All set?" Weir calls through the comm, just to be sure.
Looking around to make sure that everyone's seated and strapped in, John nods, even though he knows Elizabeth can't see it.
"All set. Want us to pick you something up from the duty-free?"
Elizabeth just laughs. "If you could find a ZeePM that would be fabulous," she teases back. "Good luck."
"No problem, they always got'em in stock but we never have time to pop in," he replies with a grin.
The Jumper lifts gracefully off the ground and descends into the Gate Room as the floor retracts. The Jumper aligns with the ring and McKay dials it up.
"We'll be back in time for dinner," John adds, waving to those in the control room. And then the Jumper disappears into the event horizon and is gone.
Once on the other side, the cloak is engaged and the craft rises into the sky, leaving the gate on the ground.
McKAy taps a few buttons on the console. "Everything looks good, so far. No lifesigns yet, but hey. We have a whole planet to explore."
Some ways off, inadvertently heading towards the Stargate no one knows is there...
Mia's in an open airspeeder, engaged in blaster fire exchange with another speeder flying parallel to her own. Some shots obviously miss their moving targets at that speed, but others hit key parts of the vehicles and both drivers are nearly hit multiple times. The other driver pulls back suddenly. Mia knows this isn't good, since they have the advantage of weapons on their craft. Kriffing bounty hunters.
Looking for any terrain to use as a shield, she's distracted when her portable scanner beeps. It seems to have picked up a large energy surge, but it's gone before she can figure out what it is. Before she can worry if it's anything but this bounty hunter's partner, weapons fire comes from behind her.
A dizzying chase in the air begins, one where Mia does her best to evade any fire directed at her speeder. There are times it seems like she'll be hit, but she manages to avoid it, for now. She has a blaster in one hand, trying to return fire whenever possible and still keep an eye on where she's going.
"Oh, hey, hold on a second," McKay murmurs.
"What is it?" Ronon asks, sitting behind him.
"I see it," Sheppard intones, banking the Jumper towards the odd energy readings.
Teyla frowned, trying to strain against her straps to look out the viewport and read the HUD at the same time. "Energy weapons of some sort? Wraith?"
"I don't know," McKay says, tapping keys. "I'm not getting any matches from our database..."
"We'll be over them in about ten minutes," Sheppard confirms. "Whatever it is, we'll find out."

The chase is still on. It's a dangerous, frantic game of who can get in the better position to fire. Mia has no idea how much ground they've covered by now, going at the speeds they are. But this can't go on forever.
Sheppard levels the Jumper, and frowns. "Looks like ten minutes is wrong. Whatever it is, they're coming straight at us. Fast."
"Looks like some sort of transportation," McKay provides helpfully.
Ronon regards the HUD readings thoughtfully. "Looks like a chase."
"Right, but who do we help?" Sheppard asks.
"It does not matter," Teyla supplies. "Perhaps something to halt the chase so we can land and sort it out without the high speeds?"
"I like how you're thinking," Sheppard agrees. "I'll fire a drone ahead of them, and hope the explosion throws them off."
The words are barely out of his mouth when the drone takes flight, streaking towards the ground several hundred feet in front of the other vehicles.
The Jumper, still cloaked, streaks past the riders right before the drone's impact into the ground; Sheppard flies out a little further before sweeping around, one eye on the HUDs readings...
Mia and the other driver, at the same time, notice the drone coming out of nowhere. They both veer in the same direction to make sure they're not hit by it, and the bounty hunter takes the opportunity to fire their blaster at Mia just before the drone hits the ground.
The force of the impact throws both speeders off-course, and the blaster fire hits Mia's engine. She loses control of it despite her best efforts, and it starts heading for a collision with the other speeder, which the bounty hunter is still trying to regain control of.
Instead of being caught in a speeder accident, or careen into the ground, or give the bounty hunter a closer target, Mia jumps out. They're not too high above the ground, luckily, or she really would've been in trouble. She lands on grass, but still hits hard. The bounty hunter's barely able to avoid hitting the other speeder but has to settle for a nasty bumpy landing. They immediately get out and start heading for where Mia jumped out.
The Team watches the speeders as they veer off-course from the cloaked Jumper as they land nearby. Teyla, Ronon and Sheppard creep from the opened hatch, appearing out of nowhere to those looking right at them, weapons raised.
They take up defensive positions, slowly creeping up behind those that are heading towards Mia.
Mia's stunned for a few seconds, having hit her head on uneven ground. When she comes to, she groans in pain and notices several things. Her speeder has crashed some distance away. The bounty hunter team is all heading for her. On top of that, strangers have appeared out of nowhere.
She frowns, concerned and confused at the newcomers, and crawls to a nearby large boulder for cover, though cradling her left arm oddly as she does so. She barely avoids being fired on by the bounty hunters. She pulls her own blaster, ready to return fire at the next chance she gets -- provided the pain doesn't cause dizzy spells.
Sheppard gives the order to use non-lethal force, so they can take the men with the guns alive and toss'em in the brig. As for the girl, he notes that she's injured, and yet still far from helpless.
With Teyla and Ronon covering him, Sheppard creeps out and fires a couple of warning shots into the ground close to the advancing hunters.
The hunters pause their firing on Mia and whirl around, weapons raised. There's a split second or two of surprised inaction on their part. They're not used to hearing a weapon like that, so they're not sure exactly what he did. It's the only reason they're not firing back immediately. "Who are you?" one of them demands. "Get outta here."
Mia's beginning to fear it's a different bounty hunter team. While they're dressed like military, they could still very well be a professional team of hunters.
"Funny, I was going to ask you the same thing," Sheppard replies, P-90 now trained on the hunters. "And we're not going anywhere until you tell us what's going on here. So, let's all lower our weapons and talk like civilized people."

"This one's our bounty," he grunts, none of them lowering their weapons. "That's all you need to know. Now get outta here."
Mia strains to hear the conversation. Hey, if some third party, bounty hunters or not, wants to take out the group after her, she won't argue. What were they, Planetary Police or something?
"Okay, now see, this is where we have to disagree," Sheppard says. "Put your weapons on the ground, and your hands behind your heads..."
The sound of an energy weapon being cocked fills the silence as Sheppard pauses.
"...Or Ronon will shoot you."
"Are you trying to go after this one?" the lead hunter asks with a harsh laugh. "She's given us as much trouble as our last three bounties combined. Believe me, we'll be doing you a favor. Now, back off, and we won't hurt you."
Mia's tempted to lean up over her boulder and take out the bounty hunters from behind while they're distracted, but the second she shows movement, the one from the speeder shoots at the rock to keep her in place. The sound momentarily distracts two of the other hunters who turn to see what's happening, and the leader takes the opening to aim his blaster at Sheppard and fire.
As soon as the two hunters turn their backs, both Ronon and Teyla take them out with stunner blasts, and they crumple to the floor. Both Teyla and Ronon rush to secure them.
Sheppard dodges the shot aimed at him, but just barely. His shirt's singed, and he's sure he's got a nice laser welt on his arm, and it stings like hell. As he rolls up onto one knee as he recovers from his dive to one side.
The bounty hunter takes off at a dead run for the speeders. The hunter still perched on his ride, is still focused on Mia and trying to pick her off, so he totally doesn't notice it when his supposed superior cracks him on the head with the butt of his gun, knocking him out and to the ground.
Sheppard goes after him, reaching a second speeder that's
miraculously still intact. It takes him a second or two to skin the controls, before he decided on which one's the throttle, and the two speeder take off almost instantly, one after the other...
Mia's not sure what to expect. She hears the shooting and the scuffling going on, takes a quick look to see the speeders starting up. She has no idea who these people are. Rival bounty hunters? Some kind of police? Until she's sure, she's staying where she is, blaster at the ready.
Sheppard completely missed the memo that the speeder he's driving is Mia's and therefore damaged goods. However, he manages to stay on the other bounty hunter for a couple of clicks before the engine starts to give in to said damage.
"Oh crap," he mutters, pulling his 9-mil. He snaps off a couple of shots, missing completely. Third shot nicks the guy's shoulder and the speeder swerves a bit. John notes he's losing his own control on the bike, and he takes a couple of shots at the other speeder, instead...
Meanwhile, Ronon and Teyla have the other three hunters rounded up.
"This one needs medical attention," Teyla says, checking the one with that got decked.
"These two won't be waking up anytime soon," Ronon replies, prodding the tied-up pair with the toe of his boot.
The Athosian woman takes a look around the clearing, then keys her radio. "Rodney, where is Colonel Sheppard? ...Understood," she says to the voice in her ear-piece. "Bring out the medical kit, we have a wounded man."
That's when she notices Mia, and she smiles at the girl. "Hello. It's safe to come out, we're friends." To indicate this, Teyla lets her P-90 hang from its tether, thus freeing her hands.
Mia stares up at her silently, not trusting her and not believing her. As far as she knows, they're after her too. What else was that thing she knows they must've been the one to fire, that nearly killed her and the bounty hunter?
"You might wanna go check on your friend," she finally says, in an unfriendly voice. "That speeder he drove off in is bound to crash any second, if it hasn't already."
"Typical," Teyla says, rolling her eyes with a sigh as Mia informs her of the faulty speeder. Obviously this Sheppard guy has a track record for driving faulty equipment. "McKay? Radio the Colonel and let him know that his craft is damaged and that he should discontinue his pursuit."
A few moments later, McKay emerges from the cloaked Jumper with the medical kit. "I radioed Sheppard, but I have no idea if he got the message or not. He never responded. Here."
Teyla takes the kit, and smiles at Mia. "Are you injured? Can I help?"
Mia moves her blaster into plainer sight, aimed in their general direction. She doesn't seem like she wants to shoot, but will in a second if she feels threatened in any way. Her left shoulder looks out of place and she's not moving that arm. She forces back a grunt of pain and sits up a little more against the boulder.
"Who are you?" It's more of a demand than a question. "Whose military? Or are you private mercs?"
Teyla gives Mia a rueful smile. "I am Teyla Emmagan. This is Ronon Dex and Doctor Rodney McKay. We are a team of explorers, and we arrived on this planet only recently. We mean you no harm, I assure you. We simply wish to help."
"What was that thing you fired? You nearly killed me. And what's in it for you? Why do you wanna help?"
