Mia had spent the next several hours sleeping off whatever pain medications their Dr. Beckett had given her. She'd woken up at some point, and while she wouldn't admit it, she'd gone almost right back to sleep, partly because of her injuries and she knew rest was needed to heal. Besides, she'd felt safe enough and she didn't see much use in trying to get to go home early if she didn't have the real energy to argue.

But it's now several hours later. And she's woken up again. She's very hungry, a little bored, and most likely stuck in the infirmary. She glances around casually to see if -- yeah, those would be soldiers still hanging around. She sighs and if it's possible while already laying down, almost flops back onto the bed. Her boredom's going to grow fast, so maybe it's time to get up and explore, even if it is only the infirmary.

"Hello?" she calls out, trying to look around and see if anyone on the medical staff is here. Food is her number one priority. Then she can see about alleviating her boredom.

[ooc: I realized I have no idea what to put in the subject line with your system of naming and such. :) Episode Interlude...? Right?]

Carson's making his rounds, though he has few patients, really. One tech comes in with a mild headache and he sends him off with a couple of aspirin. One of the botanists swings by for a check-up for something or other, and then the Doc's moving on to his only other bed-ridden patient (not including the one under guard) to check his charts.

He gives the young man a smile and an affectionate pat on the arm and then heads to Mia at about the same time that one of the nurses comes around dispensing food trays from the cafeteria.

"Well, now. Look who's up," he says amiably, smiling at the off-worlder. "How's my patient today?"

(Yeah, the [Episode Interlude] Preface and tag {I really must keep up with the tags...} are used in cases like these :) Don't worry, we're not anal about it, or anything, it just helps us keep track of what the hell goes where...also, if you come across any good Carson icons, lemme know! He needs'em...)

Mia gives him a sort of tight, wry smile. The guy's nice enough, but she is being kept here when she doesn't want to be. "Hungry. Is one of those for me?" She gestures with her head to the nurse with some food trays.

He checks a sigh at her expression, and chooses, instead, to be his usual, smiley self.

He glances over at the nurse and nods. "Oh, aye. She's been bringin' one around for ye, but you've since been unconscious when she's arrived."

And, true to form, the nurse places a tray on the bed-side table, which Carson swings around so it sits in front of Mia.

"Though I best warn ye: it's military cafeteria fare, and while it serves its purpose, they can be a little unsavoury sometimes. Though ye wouldn't know it, if you saw Rodney tuck into one."

Oh. Mia ducks her head a little to hide her expression. She had been sleeping for quite awhile, and doesn't want to have to look him in the eye cause they know he was both right about her needing rest.

Once the food's in front of her, life looks good again. "Thanks, though I've seen military food that's much worse." She looks up and gives him a real smile this time, still small, but it's open and genuine. "Thanks for patching me up, too."

He shrugs. "Aw, it was nuthing. Dislocated shoulder is an easy fix, though you'll be wanting to keep it as still as possible until the muscles heal," he says, not one to really play the I told you so game. Unless it's with Sheppard or McKay. Then he has no issues.

He checks her vitals from the monitors before stepping away and giving her some space.

"I know," she says, not in an irritated way, at least at him, just irritated at her shoulder. "But a quick dip in the bacta tank and hopefully I won't need too much more time off it." Then again, she isn't getting to bacta very fast after her injury. Because she's stuck here. She sighs as she starts eating.

"How'm I looking?" She feels fine, but it can't hurt to show she can really be a good patient. See? Non-arguing and everything.

He perches on the edged of the empty bed next to her. "Yer doing fine. Hale and hearty, despite the shoulder."

He smiles. "Now that you're off the hard medication, I'll think about asking Doctor Weir to let ye move out of th'infirmary and into guest quarters." A pause, before he adds, teasing a little, "Provided ye continue t'mind yer manners."

"I've had much worse," she says in a wry, low voice, half to herself.

Her eyes and face seem to brighten and perk up. "Really? I could get out of here?" Who cares about his last teasing remark. As long as he's serious about her getting out of the infirmary. "I'll behave. Maybe I could even have a tour? Or at least walk around the city? A little?"

Asking for a tour is probably pushing it. But she really wants to walk around a little. She gets antsy in any med center when she's there too long and it's starting to show.

"How much longer?" she asks as she continues to eat. "And do I still get the lovely company of armed guards the whole time?"

"However long it takes me to draft my report and for Dr. Weir to read and accept it," he replies. "And that'll be up to her and Major Lorne."

With a playful, sidelong glance to where some of the soldiers are stationed, "I guess it wouldn't be too bad having them hang around, with how cute most of them are."

If any of them overhear, well, that's just coincidence.

And is this a sign that Mia's feeling much better? Oh yeah. Hey, she's just looking on the bright side.

"Who's this Major Lorne?" The doctor's mentioned him twice now, and it's got Mia curious.

"He's Colonel Sheppard's second in command," he replies, but offers nothing else. No explanation on why she's suddenly Lorne's responsibility and not Sheppard's. "He's a great chap, and a lot like the Colonel."

[*was so very, very tempted to have Lorne actually show up...* And sorry! I've been meaning to tag for a day or so now, but between work, apathy and just plain brain dedness....meh. *hugs you*]

There's just the slighest of pauses. "So you're saying it's a very likely possibility he'll shoot at me, get me injured, then bring me to a place I'm not supposed to be so I'm detained as a prisoner under armed guard for 24 hours?" she asks lightly, with perfected sarcasm mixed with innocence and just the slightest raised eyebrow.

No matter where she may be, infirmary or guest quarters, and no matter how nice these people may seem or even be, and how they didn't have to treat her injuries and could have easily killed her multiple times already if they really wanted to... She hasn't forgotten she's unarmed and with an unfamiliar group being held against her will, medical advice or no. It's too much of a habit to not let her guard down fully, even if it seems by all accounts like she has, which she may do on purpose.

[LOL! You can if you want. :D I'm open to whatever. And I also remember how this week for you was totally fired, so I figured you were trying to recuperate. *lots of hugs* Hope it's been a little better since Sunday.]

Carson chuckles softly.

"Nay, he's a tad more reserved than Colonel Sheppard. He does get into'is own fair share of trouble, mind. The lot of'em keep me on my toes, to say the least." The look that accompanies this last is one of fond exasperation.

There's a moment's pause as a small smile starts and she pauses in her meal. "You just sounded a lot like our doctor. Really, what would you do without those of us who manage to accidentally land into a lot of trouble?"

Carson smiles wistfully. "I'd live a perfectly normal life, with my own practice in some quiet country in Scotland. For now, however, I'm here and in charge of the well-being of this Expedition."

She chuckles. "What's Scotland like?"

And 'expedition'... hm. Explorers with military officers on what they call an expedition, and using technology that isn't their own to travel to other planets. She files this away as another tidbit of information, like another tiny piece of a puzzle, with no outward signs that she's doing so.

"Oh, it's quite beautiful." Carson smiles as he stands. He disappears for a moment or two before returning with his calendar. It's got Scotland written across the cover in English.

"Here, these are some of the places, there," he says, sitting closer so he can show her the images.

Mia leans over to see the calendar and her eyebrows raise. "You weren't kidding, it is beautiful. How big is Scotland?"

"Not sure of specifics, but it's roughly seventy-eight square kilometers. A wee patch, when compared to other countries," he says, a fondness as well as a bit of sorrow in his eyes.

[Hey, you want in on this?]

The fact that he's talking in terms of countries and landmasses instead of planets and solar systems says a lot. A whole lot.

"Sounds like you're homesick. Would you rather be there than here? Or did you volunteer for this post?" She eats as she listens.

"I admit I was a bit out of my league when we first arrived here, but honestly, I can't imagine what they'd do without me." He smiles.
